Single... and Fabulous!! The Beauty Vine's Current Favourite Single Eyeshadows

I only have a handful of eyeshadow palettes, and while they are lovely, and I enjoy using them very much, it is the single eyeshadows that I reach for on a daily basis. Trying to make myself look a little more presentable is my aim in the morning...there is certainly no "I woke up like this" at The Beauty Vine HQ, I can assure you!!

So today I thought I would share some of the single eyeshadows that are currently occupying a draw in my little acrylic storage. I have recently had a tidy up and sort through of my makeup (gosh I love doing that!) and have collected a few favourites that are currently tickling my fancy to chat about and swatch for you. I have a few high end, and a few affordable options,  and I feel that they all fall into the neutral category. I think these particular shades would look beautiful with any eye colour...hopefully something for everyone! One feature they all have in common is that they all contain some degree of shimmer, and are mostly mid-toned shades.

I remember seeing a video from Emily Eddington from Beauty Broadcast ( EmilyNoel83 on You Tube) about single eyeshadows that work well as a one shadow look some time ago. The idea being that the shades will catch the light on your lid, and then when blended into the crease take on more depth to give your crease definition without the addition of another shadow. I typically use two brushes, a flat shader brush to pack colour onto the lid, and a fluffy blending brush to diffuse the colour into the crease. You could certainly get away with one brush, by just using your finger to pat the colour onto the lid, and then blend with the fluffy brush. I have two brushes pictured below from Bdellium Tools, the tapered blending no.785, and the flat shader no.777.  I also enjoy the Real Techniques eye brushes very much. If I feel I've blended the shade too high, I will take a dab of pressed face powder, and blend with the fluffy brush to soften the edge. It's simple, quick and easy, three things I need in the morning when I am trying to get four children ready for the day!

L-R  Laura Mercier - African Violet    NARS -  Ondine    Sunday Riley - Lady Godiva

L-R   African Violet,  Ondine,  Lady Godiva

Laura Mercier - African Violet.... Now I don't own any Laura Mercier eyeshadow palettes, and I believe this shade is in most of her palettes. Some may not consider this a neutral shade, but I do! I think it works beautifully as a one shadow look. The light catches the golden shimmer, and the pretty violet undertones look deeper and richer in the crease. I have also found that when patted over black liner along the lash line, it morphs into a beautiful antique gold shade...really pretty!

NARS - Ondine...I blame Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup for this one. It isn't the most pigmented of eyeshadows, however it is easily built up, blends beautifully and I just I love the tone of it. Brown with a hint of plum/purple. Love.

Sunday Riley - Lady Godiva... Another well known UK vlogger Ruth Crilly from A Model Recommends used this shade a few months ago in one of her videos, and I was immediately drawn to it. I managed to track it down at Mecca Cosmetica here in Australia, and it is now one of my most reached for shades. As you can see from the photo above, I have made quite a dent in it! It is so unique to me, so creamy and buttery, on the lids it's a warm toned taupe, and then blends out into a beautiful rosy, tan hue...I'm seriously obsessed with this shade! Highly recommend!

L-R   Wet'n'Wild - Nutty,  Rimmel London - Backstage,  Essence Cosmetics - Metropolitan

L-R   Nutty,  Backstage,  Metropolitan

Wet'n'Wild - Nutty...my lonely only Wet'n'Wild shadow, I have always meant to explore their 3 and 6 pan palettes, but just haven't gotten there yet! It is a gorgeous taupe, warm undertones, smooth and easy to blend, I love this on the lower lash line as well.

Rimmel London - Backstage...packs a punch in the shimmer department, but more of a cooler tone in my humble opinion. You can really get a glam look with this shade, and easily transition to a night time look with some liner and lashings of mascara.

Essence Cosmetics - Metropolitan...is more of a deep brown, and probably the darkest shade of my current faves. However, it blends out really nicely into a lovely warm brown, and just fades away into the skin perfectly above the crease.

I try to be as sensible as I can when it comes to spending my money on a single eyeshadow. In reality, it is not the most cost effective purchase! However, I am really pleased with the high-end shades I have shown you today, and would not hesitate to recommend them.

Have you tried any of these shades? What are you favourite single eyeshadows? Do leave a comment below, I'd love to hear from you!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Christmas Beauty Buys - Bare Minerals "All the Faves"

After seeing Emily Eddington's video reviewing this gift set on her You Tube channel I knew that it would be a great one to purchase. Emily does such amazing reviews and tutorials, and is one of my favourite beauty guru's to watch. Click on her name above, this will take you to her blog and you can navigate to her You Tube channel from there ( if there is anyone out there who isn't already a subscriber of hers!!)

I purchased this gift set online from Mecca Cosmetica here in Australia for $54.95. Mecca have some great gift sets for beauty lovers, and offer great customer service and prompt delivery.

I am new to the Bare Minerals brand, and thought that this set would be a great introduction to some of their products. Although this gift set itself is limited edition, all of the products are part of their permanent line, allowing you the option of purchasing any of the products in their full size if you desire.
Nothing worse than falling in love with a limited edition product!

All products are quite good sized mini's, and I feel really good value for money. Apart from your base you can create a complete look with this kit, and I feel it lends itself towards a nice everyday, natural work appropriate look.

Mineral Veil Finishing Powder   ( 0.75gms )

This is a beautifully finely-milled setting powder which I am really enjoying!! It does a brilliant job of blurring my fine lines and pores, and seems to brighten my complexion...highly recommend!

Left - Prime Time Eyelid Primer (1.5ml)     Right - Prime Time Foundation Primer  (4.5 ml)

I find the eye primer to do a good job as a base for my eyeshadow, it has a slight tint to help lightly conceal any imperfections, and is a very smooth silicone based texture which blends nicely.

I have not tried the foundation primer as yet!

Lash Domination Volumising Mascara in Intense Black  (5.5ml)

I have a couple of Mascara's opened at the moment so waiting to use them up before I try this one!

Left - Marvellous Moxie Lipgloss in 'Sparkplug' (2.25ml)
Right - Marvellous Moxie Lipstick in 'Get Ready' (1.5gm)

Top 'Sparkplug' gloss   Bottom 'Get Ready' Lipstick

Loving both of these!! The gloss gives your lips a minty tingling feeling for about an hour which I don't find uncomfortable, I am just aware of it . It is a little sticky, which I don't mind in a gloss formula. The shade is quite pigmented as you can see from the swatch, and could definitely be used on its own for a lovely natural look with a little bit of shine.

The lipstick is very creamy and smooth to apply, and this deep rose shade is very flattering and brightening to the whole face! Beautifully pigmented and long lasting without drying my lips.

Ready Eyeshadow 2.0 ' The Epiphany'   (shades are  L- A-ha   R- Foreshadow)

A fabulous duo of everyday shades, I am currently loving 'A-ha' all over the lid and using 'Forshadow' as a liner on the upper lash line. I have heard many wonderful reviews of the Ready Eyeshadow duo's and quads, these shades are beautifully soft and creamy, and so easy to work with. I would definitely love to try some other shades!

Ready Blush in 'The One'

A lovely natural blush in a shade that would compliment many different makeup looks. Very easy to build up to a lovely flush of colour on your cheeks. I believe this is one of Emily's favourites!!

Swatches in natural light of top 'The Epiphany' eyeshadow duo ( gorgeous!)
Bottom - Ready Blush in 'The One' ( gorgeous!)

I am really enjoying this kit!! I believe it is available in the US at Sephora and Ulta for around $35(US)
In view of the prices of cosmetics in Australia, I still feel that this is good value. It would make a lovely gift for both the makeup lover or someone just starting to experiment with makeup.

Do you have any Bare Minerals favourites??

Thanks for stopping by!

IMATS 2013 Haul Part Two - Ben Nye

Hi Everyone,

Here is part two of my IMATS haul. Photos and swatches of the lovely Ben Nye products I purchased.
Loving these eyeshadows, and looking forward to experimenting with the cream colour base!

Ben Nye Pearl Sheen eyeshadow PS-13 WALNUT

Ben Nye pearl sheen eyeshadow PS-18 Bronze

I purchased these little beauties from the Scotty's Make Up stand at IMATS. This was my first foray into Ben Nye products after hearing many positive reviews about the line. In particular, the Ben Nye Banana Powder, which has a cult following among beauty bloggers, was sold out by early Saturday morning!

Back to my lovelies...lets just say it was love at first swatch. Creamy, smooth texture, beautifully pigmented. Both of the Pearl Sheen Eyeshadows make a beautiful single shadow eye look and blend out with ease.

IMATS 2013 Haul Part One - MAKE UP STORE

I had first heard of the MAKE UP STORE last year whilst watching the lovely Chloe Morello on her You Tube channel . I had hoped to make it to one of the workshops Chloe had hosted at the Make Up Store in the Sydney suburb of Paddington last month, however I wasn't able to get there.

I believe that IMATS 2013 was the first time Make Up Store had exhibited, and it was certainly on my hit list! The set up of the booth was inviting, and the products were displayed beautifully, all easily accessible to pick up and swatch. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, and as you can see from the photos I had a lovely time!!

The products look beautiful in their sturdy matte black packaging, embossed with the company logo. I am so excited to play with these gorgeous colours. I am typically a neutral girl, so these shades take me a little out of my comfort zone, but makeup is all about experimentation and having fun isn't it??

I hope you find the photos and swatches helpful...maybe they will inspire you to inject some colour into your spring makeup wardrobe!
