New! Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick Collection | Swatches and Review

Who loves a good lippy?

Who is turned off by drying, flaky matte lipsticks that make your lips feel like the Sahara Desert?

Well Rimmel London might just have the answer in their new range of The Only 1 Matte Lipsticks. Released in February, these lipsticks promise a smooth application, a matte finish and excellent wear time. I was sent all nine shades as a press sample, and have swatches of all of the shades, along with my thoughts to share with you today!

Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipsticks - The Beauty Vine.

The formula of these lipsticks reminds me a little of the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution formula. They are most certainly smooth to apply, thanks to their oil infused formula. They have a velvety matte finish that does not completely 'dry down' as such, so they still reflect a little bit of light, which I love. Let's call it a luminous matte finish. This also means that you can press your lips together comfortably, and they don't feel the slightest bit heavy. For me, the wear time itself is good, though they will wear away with eating/drinking/chatting as many lipsticks do. They are not transfer proof, nor do they claim to be. I find I'll need to touch up at least half way through the day, which is completely ok in my book. The pigment is generally good, though some shades you might need to make a few passes to build up the colour. I have not had any issues with the lipstick bleeding or feathering outside my lip line, though you may wish to use a lip liner with the deeper shades for extra security. The shade range is solid, and offers good variety, with an interesting pop of colour in Run The Show! They do have a scent, it is quite fruity, and reminds me of watermelon chuppa chups! The scent is really only noticeable on application, and does not linger.

My picks? You can't go past High Flyer for a perfect, everyday mauve/rose lip. If I feel a bit sassy I'll  go for  Look Who's Talking, which is just gorgeous, and takes me straight back to the 90's! Take The Stage is a must have for cool toned red lip lovers, it is stunning. If you fancy more of a berry/wine shade then go for The Matte Factor, which reminds me of the good old Rimmel 107. The two lightest shades, Salute and Trendsetter do not disappoint either, and have enough colour in them to still be flattering for an old girl like me.

Lou's Beauty tip for busy babes...

The velvety, smooth texture of these make for a neat cream blush. Apply the colour to the back of your hand, warm it up with your finger tip, and tap it onto the apples of your cheeks. My favourite  shades for this are Salute, and High Flyer.

Have you tried these lovely new lippies yet? Which shade is your favourite?
Leave me a comment below, I'd love to hear from you!

New In! Shanghai Suzy Winter Collection

It is indeed an exciting time at The Beauty Vine HQ when a new Shanghai Suzy lipstick collection is released! I have the new Winter Collection to share with you today! All 8 shades are in my hot little hands. You may be correct in guessing that I have no self control!

I snapped up the collection the evening it was released online, and I have some lip swatches to help you decide which shades you might like to pick up.

Shanghai Suzy Lipsticks are an Australian brand, based in the city of Melbourne. Two collections are released each year, featuring on-trend shades to accompany the current season. On a side note, the stunningly gorgeous woman behind the brand, Joanna, looks absolutely beautiful in every single shade! Along with the Nourish, and Matte formulas we have seen in past collections, a newcomer, the Shimmer formula joins the ranks for the Winter Collection.

The first thing I noticed on application of the new matte shades, was how smooth and comfortable they felt on my lips. There was definitely an increase in slip and sheen with this formula. On visiting the website, I discovered that Jo has added some lovely Jojoba oil to the matte formula, to make it a little more nourishing for the Winter months. Our lips say thank you Jo! If you are familiar with Shanghai Suzy matte lipsticks, you will notice a difference with the shades in this collection.

SHANGHAI SUZY WINTER COLLECTION

SHANGHAI SUZY - WINTER COLLECTION - LEFT-RIGHT  Miss Sanja FUCHSIA ,  Miss Victorine CLASSIC RED,
Mrs French WINTER MAROON, Miss Veronica SPARKLING PLUM.

MISS SANJA FUCHSIA - Matte
" A re-run of one of the most-loved from the very first Shanghai Suzy collection "
A beautiful, vibrant fuchsia which makes a statement! I find this type of shade personally more daring to wear than many shades of red, but it is beautiful!

MISS VICTORINE CLASSIC RED - Matte
" A striking and chic classic red in a rich, creamy formula "
I absolutely adore this shade, I have quite a few favourites, and this is a must-have in my opinion!

MRS FRENCH WINTER MAROON - Matte
" Reminiscent of a delicious Shiraz wine, Mrs French is a bold and rich deep maroon "
Joanna designed this shade specifically to wear at her wedding reception... It is another gorgeous shade, and another must-have in my book!

MISS VERONICA SPARKLING PLUM - Shimmer
" Perfect pinky-plum for Winter which deepens in colour when layered "
This is a sheer, buildable shade with a really beautiful, unique finish. The glitter/shimmer in the formula is very fine, and I cannot feel it on my lips. The tone of this shade reminds me of Miss Georgina from the first collection, which is still one of my favourites today. Absolutely beautiful. Put it on your list!

SHANGHAI SUZY - WINTER COLLECTION - LEFT-RIGHT  Miss Cassandra PEONY,  Miss Kat 90's CAPPUCINO,
Miss Tanielle DESERT ROSE, Miss Nina SPARKLING CORAL

MISS CASSANDRA PEONY - Nourish
" This ultra flattering soft peony hue is super moisturising, the perfect 'everyday' go-to this Winter"
As described, the perfect everyday pink, which looks equally beautiful patted lightly on the lips or built up to a more opaque finish. Love.

MISS KAT 90's CAPPUCINO - Matte
" a yellowy brown based nude to flatter teeth and most skin tones"
The swatch above unfortunately shows my skin tone to look a little deeper than it is, my apologies. In real life this shade makes my skin take on a greyish hue, and drains it of colour. If you have a warmer, or more olive skin tone this shade will look beautiful on you, however in all honesty I don't feel that it is very flattering on me.

MISS TANIELLE DESERT ROSE - Matte
" Taupey-rose in our beautiful matte formula...slightly edgy and a deeper take on pink "
Like many of these shades this was love a first application. Another very wearable, everyday shade that I think will look good on everybody. Love! Joanna wore this shade during her wedding ceremony!

MISS NINA SPARKLING CORAL - Shimmer
" We love Miss Nina to bring a pop of bright coral to dreary winter days and nights! "
Oh I would love to be brave enough to rock this shade! I see this type of gorgeous coral on beautifully tanned, and deeper skin tones and I think it looks just stunning! I'll have to wear it around the house for a few days and get used to it! I found Miss Nina to be slightly less forgiving on any texture on my lips, and found that she did not feel as smooth as her sister shimmer shade Miss Veronica. I'd recommend a good lip scrub prior to application of Miss Nina.

As I mentioned earlier, I purchased the entire Winter collection online, for $65.00AUD. Each lipstick retails for $12.95AUD, or you can purchase 3 lipsticks for $38.95AUD and receive 1 free!

To date, there are sadly no options for international shipping that I am aware of. Hopefully that will change soon!

Do visit Shanghai Suzy here to shop online and check out over 450 stockists Australia wide.

Do any of these shades tickle your fancy? Are you a Shanghai Suzy fan like me? I have built up quite a collection to date!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Blessings,

A few thoughts straight from the Beauty Vine's lips...

The most recent collection, Autumn/Winter 2014 are all Matte formulas. I am blown away by how comfortable this formula is on my lips. I own matte lipsticks from Revlon, Rimmel, MAC, and Maybelline, and Shanghai Suzy beats them all by a country mile. The pigment is rich and glorious, they are extremely long lasting, and yet still manage to feel so lightweight on the lips. There are some important application tips on the website, so do heed that advice to make the most of your finished look.

Three of my shades are in the Nourish formula. All three were from the Spring Summer 2013 launch, and as mentioned above, all shades are limited edition. Another beautiful formula, great colour pay-off, and they definitely feel nourishing and comfortable. Of course, being more moisturising, you will likely need to reapply more often. No problem.

They do have a distinct scent. A fruity, bubblegum scent inspired by Grape Hubba Bubba! It certainly takes me back to my childhood!
I did notice the scent to be quite strong when I first removed the lid, less so on application, and within a few minutes was not aware of it. I am not aware of any taste whilst wearing these lipsticks.

I really love, and am enjoying all of the shades that I purchased. If you asked me my current, "go-to" shade, it would have to be Miss Georgina. For me, it is the perfect everyday, pick-me-up, brighten-up-my-face shade. I may feel the need to purchase a back up...and if it is ever re-promoted, perhaps a suitable name change might be  "Miss Lou"...?

Just sayin....

Shanghai Suzy lipsticks are not tested on animals, and do not contain any animal derived ingredients.

Do leave me a comment down below! I'd love to hear from you!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Blessings,

Lou xo

P.S. I purchased all of these lippies with my hard earned money. I am not affiliated with the brand, however if you see me in the street I will most likely be wearing one, have one in my purse, and be waving a Shanghai Suzy flag...

Lips on The Vine - SAVVY by DB Long Lasting Matte Lipsticks

Good Morning!

Giving a bit of lip today beauties! I wanted to share some love for a brand that is exclusive to Priceline pharmacies in Australia, SAVVY by DB. An affordable 'drugstore' brand that offers a great selection of face, eye and lip cosmetics as well as some knockout nail polish shades.

A recent sale in Priceline offered 'buy 1 get 1 free' on all SAVVY by DB lip products, and I had been eyeing off this particular formula for a while.

Today I have two shades of the Long Lasting Matte Lipstick to share with you. Be on the lookout for my next post which will be looking at their Classic Blushes.

Many of the lighter, more neutral and pink shades were sold out at my local Priceline, however I did manage to pick up these two beauties! Love the packaging too!

Left - 'Bali'       Right - 'Vegas'

'Bali'

'Vegas'

Top 'Bali'  Bottom 'Vegas' swatched in natural light.

Moi in 'Vegas' !

My Thoughts:

As these are a recent purchase I can only really share my first impressions, which thus far are positive!

'Vegas' is a stunning red which leans slightly to the cooler side, and is quite a creamy formula for a matte lipstick. On the lips it is not completely 'flat' as some true matte formulas can be, which I don't mind. In my opinion, it makes it a little more comfortable, and less drying on the lips. I am yet to fully test the long lasting claim, however this shade seemed to wear quite well, and certainly left a stain on both my lips and my arm when I swatched it!! This shade is my favourite of the two so far!

'Bali' is a beautiful deep, vampy berry/wine shade. Definitely a true matte lipstick in application and finish, you will need to exfoliate and apply some lip balm before this one! Personally I would reach for this one for a night out, however the beauty of such shades is that you can make them quite 'wearable' by using them as a stain. I will apply the lipstick as normal, blot, and then use a cotton bud to remove some of the pigment, at the same time as working it into the lips evenly...this is a great way to get some more use out of deeper shades that you might otherwise shy away from! I also enjoy adding a gloss over the top of the stain, another way to change up both the look and colour, and add some moisture!

The Long Lasting Matte Lipsticks retail for $6.99 each from Priceline stores nationally and online.

You can find the website here

Have you tried any of the SAVVY by DB cosmetics? What is your favourite matte lipstick?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Blessings,

Lou xo
